  1. Getting Started
  2. ---------------
  3. Crossword Creator Version 4.00 is almost a total rewrite of CWC 3.70.  The
  4. formats of the puzzle files are the same, but just about everything else
  5. is new and improved.  New user-interface, new printer drivers, new features.
  6.  
  7. CWINSTAL, the installation program, is gone.  To get CWC up and running,
  8. just copy all the files to your working disk and run CWC.EXE.  The options
  9. in your CONFIG.CWC file are now specified via the CONFIGURATION function
  10. in the main program.

  12. CWC???.DOC, the documentation files, are also gone.  All sixty-plus pages
  13. of the NEW documentation is now available on-line through CWC's help
  14. function.  The actual text is contained in ENGL.CWH.  If you really want a
  15. printed manual, CWHPRINT.EXE has been provided to print ENGL.CWH in a
  16. readable format.

  18. *.CWP, the printer definition files, have been renamed and rebuilt.  Don't
  19. try to use drivers from a previous version.  New keywords have been added,
  20. others have been dropped, some have acquired additional function.  A "Printer
  21. Support List" is provided in the help file to aid you in selecting the correct
  22. driver for your printer.  CWC comes pre-installed for an IBM Graphics Printer.

  24. The fastest way to get up to speed is to simply run CWC.EXE.  Once
  25. you've gotten by the Copyright/Intro screen, the FIRST thing you should do
  26. is press F1, the HELP key.  This will pop-up a "Quick Start" tutorial that
  27. will give you a short overview of the program, and provide further
  28. instructions on how to configure Crossword Creator.  Creating CONFIG.CWC
  29. should be the SECOND thing you do.

  31. After that, everything's easy.  All your existing puzzles are 100%
  32. compatible with Version 4.00; just use them as you always have.
  33. The HELP TOPICS function is your Table of Contents to the HELP file.
  34. There's lots of valuable information in there, so read it as you go.

  37. Distribution disks
  38. ------------------
  39. Crossword Creator is distributed on two 5.25", 360K floppy disks or
  40. one 3.5", 720K micro-floppy disk.  In the latter format, "Disk #1" and
  41. "Disk #2" are the same physical disk.
